My brilliant postal carrier actually found my mailbox today and delivered new strings to me. Studio Acoustic is restrung and will stretch overnight. Home guitar will get it tonight.

Thank you done to a supporter and confidant.

Today’s portrait is Randy. It takes dedication to grow a beard for this long.  Kudos to people with patience.

The technique is different today. For the non-photographers in the crowd or even those who don’t know about the old school stuff, here’s what’s going on: Randy is on the set, lit from above, below and both sides with boxes and strips. In front of him I’ve positioned my 8x10 view camera. This is basically the same thing Matthew Brady http://www.mathewbrady.com/ used to photograph Abraham Lincoln. There have been no software updates in decades ;-) Now my modern day DSLR is aimed at the back of the view camera…the ground glass, which is used for focusing. So, what you see is the image of Randy upside down (‘cause that’s the way it works) framed by the camera and beyond that you can see Randy’s legs peeking out.
