Day Twenty
1:13pm
Woke up this morning with ‘Mr. Tambourine’ in my head….it could’ve been a lot worse. Pulled out the guitar and lyrics and played around with it for a few minutes. I’d forgotten about all the verses of this song that sort of fell by the wayside. Like:
Though you might hear laughin’, spinnin’ swingin’ madly across the sun
It’s not aimed at anyone, it’s just escapin’ on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facin’
And if you hear vague traces of skippin’ reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it’s just a ragged clown behind
I wouldn’t pay it any mind, it’s just a shadow you’re
Seein’ that he’s chasing.
and…..Then take me disappearin’ through the smoke rings of my mind
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.
Letter written and posted by 9:30.Tonight will be a gathering of old friends at our house. Everyone brings three ingredients and we all create mayhem and yummy things in the kitchen then pull out handmade ukes and guitars and wine and continue with more audio mayhem in the living room. Oh, and someone will get their portrait made. ;-) Stay tumed.12:29amFinished photo @ 11:59pm. Whew! A great evening of friends, food and wine at our home. John Kelly is our subject tonight. John has been my friend since our daughters met while still in diapers. Note to self: Your children pick your friends. And that’s ok. Really ok. John is holding a ukelele he built by hand. It’s a beautiful instrument, and plays and sounds even better. I’m a lucky guy.
